Epic Fundraising Challenge for Sam and Nick

2025 is turning into the year of the fundraiser for Waveney Surf Lifesaving Club and there have been some phenomenal efforts put in by various clubbies taking part in some pretty tough sporting challenges. This spring it’s the turn of Training Officer Sam Every and Club Chairman Nick Ayers who will be putting all their surf lifesaving skills, physical fitness and endurance to the test in a series of gruelling challenges.

Waveney Surf Lifesaving Club Awards Night 2024

The duo aims to raise £1,600 for the Club by taking part in two weekends of endurance swimming, prone board paddling, ski paddling and running. They will clock up an incredible total of 160km (99.4miles) between them – so hopefully for every kilometre they complete, they’ll raise £10 for the Club.

All funds raised will be put towards the purchase of much needed equipment for the newly formed ‘Youth Academy’, which is the division of the Club that supports Nipper members transition to the ‘Youth Squad’.

As founders of Waveney Surf Lifesaving Club, Sam and Nick are passionate about promoting water safety as well as the thrills and camaraderie of surf lifesaving as a sport. There have been many an occasion where the duo has been head-to-head in competitive racing but this time, they’ll need to support each other whole-heartedly to get through what is sure to be a dig-deep, gruelling few days. Here’s what they’ll be up against:

Part One – Beccles Endurance Swim, Beccles Lido

On 26th/27th April the boys will be taking part in the 24-hour Endurance Swim at Beccles Lido. Sam and Nick will get 24 x 30-minute windows to swim and will be alternating, aiming to swim 48km between them over the 24-hours.

Part Two – Paddle Skedaddle

On 10th May our mighty duo will be heading to the Norfolk Broads for an epic prone board endurance sprint organised by Norfolk Supboard Racing. The 26.5km (16.5 mile) point to point route starts at Sutton Staithe Hotel and travels along the River Ant, to Thurne Mill, through Potter Heigham and finishes at Hickling Broad. Fingers crossed for a still day, or they could be in for a bumpy ride to the finish!

Part Three – Solo Run/Ski Challenge

To finish the quest, as if they won’t have done enough already, the boys will be heading to Lowestoft for their own run and ski paddle mission. Nick and Sam will each add 30km to their total distance, with their final run finishing by the Claremont Pier.

How to Show Your Support

This is no mean feat – the boys are going to have to train hard for this one and they’ll need all the support they can get. Of course, it’s about them pushing themselves to the limit and fulfilling a personal challenge, but the ultimate goal is to secure funds to buy equipment for the Youth Academy, so if you’d like to show your support, you can make a donation via their Justgiving page.

If you can’t make a donation, why not head to our social media pages to keep up to date with how they’re getting on or drop them a message to show your support.

Good Luck Boys! We're sure you'll smash it.
